A folded stainless steel vessel inspired by the interplay of curves and facets found in the organic geometries of butterfly wings and chrysalises.
Created for an exhibition and sale of sheet metal products at ArtHaus Gallery in Allentown, PA.
The design process began with initial sketches and grew through numerous iterations of hand-cut paper mock-ups , Fusion 360 models, and laser-cut prototypes in chipboard and aluminum.
These continual adjustments allowed me to validate the security of the interlocking 'petals' design, perfect the shape of the cutters, and ensure the metal's strength after being laser-cut. I arrived at stainless steel as the final material choice due to its strength and food-safety.
